Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan urged the public on Friday, Dec. 29, to strictly follow the prevailing firecrackers law in the city in celebrating the New Year.

The directive is in line with the implementation of Republic Act (RA) 7183, also known as "An Act Regulating the Sale, Manufacture, and Use of Firecrackers and Other Pyrotechnic Devices."
It aims to regulate and manage firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices' manufacture, sale, distribution, and use.
The regulation aligns with the goals of ensuring public safety, maintaining order, safeguarding national security, and simultaneously preserving cultural traditions.
Among the firecrackers prohibited under the firecrackers law are Watusi; Piccolo; Poppop; Five Star; Pla-Pla; Lolo Thunder; Giant Bawang; Giant Whistle Bomb; Atomic Bomb (Super Lolo); Atomic Triangle (Goodbye Bading); Large Size Judas Belt (Goodbye Philippines); Goodbye Delima (Bin Laden); Hello Columbia (Mother Rockets); Goodbye Napoles (Coke-In-Can); Super Yolanda (Pillbox); Mother Rockets (Boga); and Kwiton (Kabasi).

Maranan emphasized that violators will face penalties under existing laws and local ordinances.
Meanwhile, the QCPD has designated specific areas where the use of firecrackers or pyrotechnic devices will be allowed to ensure the safety of the residents.
The Fairview Police Station (PS 5) has designated areas including open spaces in SSS Village, Namapa Basketball Court, Balikatan Court, Fairmont Clubhouse, UNFHAI Clubhouse, and Drachma as firecracker zones.
Meanwhile, the Cubao Police Station (PS 7) has designated the following areas are firecracker zones: front of Barangay Socorro Hall, front of Murphy Market, front of Barangay San Roque Hall, and Brgy. San Martin de Porres covered court.
The Anonas Police Station (PS 9) has also specified these areas as firecrackers zones: K-10th St., corner Kasing-Kasing St., K-H St., the open area in front of Barangay Hall, Aguho St., Batino St., cor. Aurora Blvd., Open Basketball Court, BPI Open Area, Kaingin 1, Kaingin 2, and Pansol Plaza, Area 2 and Area 6 Open Area, Maginhawa St. and V. Luna Extn., University Avenue, Pook Palaris, Area 17 open area, and an open park.
The areas of Roces Avenue, Rotonda, Sct. Chuatoco corner Sct. Reyes, Kamuning Rd. Cor 11th Jamboree and NIA corner BIR Rd. where the Kamuning Police Station (PS 10) is located will also allow the use of firecrackers.
Meanwhile, the Project 6 Police Station (PS 15) has specified the SM North Edsa rooftop and Trinoma rooftop as firecracker zones while Pasong Putik Police Station (PS 16) has designated Robinson's rooftop as fireworks display area.
According to the QCPD, they conducted 52 operations between Dec. 26 and 28, leading to the confiscation of 1,273 prohibited firecrackers with an estimated value of P33,220.
Maranan emphasized the police force's dedication to enforcing the law to ensure a safer community for everyone.
"The QCPD seeks the cooperation of the public to report any violations promptly to the authorities and urges residents to explore alternative ways to celebrate the New Year without resorting to the use of illegal firecrackers," Maranan said.
"By adhering to this prohibition, a safer and more secure environment for everyone will be ensured," he added.
