Rise in passenger departures expected after New Year -- BI
After New Year's celebration, the country will expect a rise in the number of passenger departures, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Friday, Dec. 29.
Commissioner Norman Tansingco observed an increase of passenger arrivals this month of December.
“We project that the numbers will change after New Year, when OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) and former Filipinos who came home for the holidays will go back to their work and residence abroad,” Tansingco explained.
Thus, he said, it is expected that starting January the number of passenger departures will rise to around 40,000 daily.
This December, Tansingco said the BI had already processed a total of 1.4 million passenger arrivals and 750,000 departures. "This includes 30,000 departures processed after Christmas," he said.
From Dece. 23 to 25, BI recorded a total of 161,664 passenger arrivals, he also said.
“International travel is not just on a rebound. Figures show that the number of travelers is almost surpassing pre-pandemic numbers,” he had earlier said.
