Filipino with 'fake' marriage certificate intercepted at NAIA -- BI
A Filipino who claimed he would visit his wife in Macao for Christmas was stopped at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last Dec. 24 for presenting a fake marriage certificate to support his travel.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, Dec. 26, Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco withheld the name of the Filipino.
During inspection, Tansingco said "the man presented a marriage certificate to substantiate his claim, but officers noticed that the document he presented was a counterfeit."
On further questioning, "the man eventually admitted he bought the document on Facebook for P1,500, which he attempted to use to show to immigration,” Tansingco said.
“We suspect he might be traveling after being illegally recruited to work abroad, hence the story and the fake document,” he said.
The BI has referred the man to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) for investigation and assistance, he also said.
