VP Duterte highlights connection between education and environment as she visits schools


Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte recently visited various schools across the Philippines to understand the needs of students and teachers and to highlight the importance of environmental sustainability.

“Included in my visit to various schools throughout the Philippines as secretary of the Department of Education is the personal greeting of the condition of our students and teachers to know their condition and needs,” Duterte said in a statement on Tuesday, Dec. 19.

Her recent visit to Panlab Elementary School in Virac, Catanduanes highlighted the role of education and environmental sustainability.

Through the "PagbaBAGo: A Million Learners and Trees Campaign, Duterte not only provided one million bags of school supplies and dental kits but also planted trees alongside students and local officials.

The project is a DepEd initiative that aims to plant one million trees under the leadership of President Marcos Jr.

During her visit, the secretary shared that she visited some classrooms and talked to the students to remind them to study hard to graduate because this is the key to having a good future.

“To our young people, may your determination and effort in learning become a bridge so that you can reach your desired dreams in life,” Durtete said.

She urged them to embrace their enthusiasm for learning as the "key to building a brighter future for themselves and their families."

Furthermore, Duterte encouraged everyone to continue to be strong in "promoting a Youthful Nation and National Youth."
