DepEd plants over 1.8 million trees under Christmas gift-giving project
Over 1.8 million trees were planted by schools under the Department of Education (DepEd) under its Christmas gift-giving initiative.

This was announced by Vice President and DepEd Secretary on Monday, Dec. 11, during the flag raising at the Central Office Pasig City.
Duterte thanked the DepEd employees for “your all-out support in delivering our Christmas gift for the children this year” --- the DepEd 236k Trees Project.

“I am pleased to announce that we have planted a total of One Million Eight Hundred Twenty-Six Thousand and Three Hundred Thirty-Four (1,826,334) trees for the children across all regions in the country, with the Cordillera Administrative Region alone planting One Million Three Hundred Thirty-Six Thousand and Four Hundred Ninety-Six (1, 336, 496) trees,” Duterte said.
Duterte added that the number continues to “increase” as certain areas are still processing in determining the total number of trees planted by schools in their locality.
“Truly, a testament to our oath of being Makakalikasan,” she added.
Duterte congratulated everyone for being part of this “success.”
“The work that we do demonstrates our heartfelt resolve to ensure a sustainable future where everyone, every young Filipino can thrive,” she added.
DepEd launched the said project on Dec. 6 as a “Christmas gift” to Filipino children and future generations.

Meanwhile, Duterte also gave her Christmas message to the DepEd officials and employees.
“As we commemorate the Yuletide season, let the spirit of generosity and the true meaning of Christmas inspire us to offer the best of our capabilities for the good of our Department and the Filipino learners,” she said.
“May this joyful season of merrymaking motivate you further to perform your respective duties and responsibilities as well-equipped civil servants and compassionate individuals,” she added.
She then urged all DepEd employees to celebrate the Christmas season with “deep gratitude and profound purpose” and with “renewed hope for a brighter and better future for every Filipino family.”
“I sincerely wish you and your families more opportunities for success and more reasons of happiness in 2024,” she added.
