300 Bilibid's PDLs transferred to Iwahig Prison in Palawan
A total of 300 more persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) has been transferred from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City to the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan.
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said the transfer is in line with jail decongestion at NBP and the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City.
Both the NBP and the CIW are expected to be emptied of PDLs by 2008 for the convernsion of the two penal institutions to business and government hubs, Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said.
Last Dec. 7 during the National Jail Decongestion Summit in Manila, Catapang said that a total of 2,009 PDLs from NBP and CIW had been transfered to other penal farms.
Of those transferred, 947 PDLs were sent to IPPF; 562 to Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro; and 500 to the Davao Prison (DPPF) in Davao del Norte.
