BuCor gets 9.6-hectare donated land in Lanao del Norte for prison facility
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) now has 9.6 hectares of land in Lanao del Norte for a new prison facility in the province.
In a statement, BuCor said it already received the Deed of Donation from Mayor Rafael Rizalda of Maigo town. The signing of the deed was held in Cagayan de Oro City.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said "the Deed of Donation covered an expansive 9.6398 hectares of land, generously given in support of BuCor's Regionalization Program.”
“This program, based on Republic Act No. 11928 Regionalization Plan, is specifically designed to tackle the pressing issue of congestion in BuCor's current prison facilities,” Catapang said.
BuCor said that to ensure the suitability and feasibility of the proposed area, the bureau assured “a thorough site visitation was conducted, allowing for comprehensive assessment and evaluation by BuCor officials.”
As part of its long-term program for the regionalization of prisons, the BuCor aims to put up 16 regional prisons with each having separate facilities for male and female.
It said it also plans to put up facilities for heinous crime offenders at Fort Magsaysay Military Reservation in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija for Luzon; Camp Macario B. Palta in Jamindan, Capiz for the Visayas; and Camp Kibaritan, Kalimantan in Bukidnon for Mindanao.
“The plan is to reconfigure prison facilities to accommodate only 2,500 PDLs (persons deprived of liberty) per facility,” it said.
