PH Red Cross calls for resolute action to protect civilians in Israel-Gaza conflict
Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon urged humanitarian leaders to act resolutely in protecting the children, women, wounded, and vulnerable in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

In a speech at a conference in Vietnam on Nov. 22, Gordon appealed to the humanitarian community not to be indecisive about its response to the Israel-Hamas war.

He stressed that "there is no time for pausing, as children and women are dying and people are sick from injuries."
"We are not going to leave the vulnerable alone. That is why we have to act. There is no time for pausing. Children are dying. Women are dying. People are sick not only of injuries from war," he said.
The organization said Gordon has been consistently calling for action just 10 days after Hamas launched an attack on Southern Israel on Oct. 7.
He proposed sending ships to serve as floating hospitals to provide medical care to the wounded, sick, and dying.
Gordon also reiterated his recommendation to secure, lease, and operate an offshore cruise ship that could be converted into a hospital facility, providing safe, hygienic living quarters, food, and medical care for all vulnerable individuals.

Likewise, he also stressed the pressing need to establish a humanitarian corridor to allow refugees to transit out of a crisis region safely.
