PH Red Cross renews call for establishment of hospital ship in Gaza
Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard Gordon on Monday, Nov. 6 reiterated his call for the establishment of a hospital ship off the coast of Gaza, as well as hospitals at the border and inside refugee camps in the Gaza Strip.

“We can do it by sea. We can set up a hospital ship along the coast of Gaza,” Gordon said.
In addition, the idea of a hospital ship is being proposed by several groups that are observing developments in Gaza.
He immediately recommended humanitarian “pauses” to assess the immediate needs of civilians.
Gordon emphasized the importance of keeping hospitals operational to provide immediate medical attention to and ensure the well-being of those affected by the escalating war's increasing death toll.
“There are 16,000 pregnant women in Gaza at this time. It is important that we forcefully, if necessary, bring in humanitarian assistance,” Gordon added.
“Wars have rules. Civilians must be protected,” Gordon said as he strongly urged the international community to support the call of the International Federation of Red Cross or Red Crescent (IFRC) to set up an international humanitarian corridor.
The PRC chief has been emphasizing that creating a humanitarian corridor is not only a good gesture and goodwill but also an "important assistance for those in desperate need."

Due to the increasing number of injured individuals, Gordon suggested that the IFRC establish a 5,000-bed field hospital at the Egypt-Gaza border.
“It is relatively easy to establish these hospitals with independent generators and water supply, and the cost would be minuscule compared to what is currently spent on military activities,” he added.
Moreover, Gordon suggested deploying international ambulances of the Red Cross to transport patients, supplies, and medical personnel.
