Budget Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman underscored the crucial role of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) in upholding peace in Mindanao and driving the socio-economic recovery of the Philippines.
Pangadaman stated that the OGP aligns with President Marcos’ directive to guarantee transparency and comprehensive digitization in the government to enable active participation of the people in shaping and overseeing national policies.
“The call for open government and good governance must be stronger and louder here in Mindanao,” Pangandaman said at the final leg of the OGPinas! National Advocacy Campaign in Davao City on Friday, Nov. 24.
“As a child of Mindanao, I know that we have gone through a lot to achieve the peace we enjoy today. Now, we need open government to preserve and give more value to this peace,” she added.
Pangandaman explained that engaging in the peace-building process is essential to help fellow Filipinos in Mindanao overcome the difficulties stemming from years of conflict.
“As such, I firmly believe that peace building and socioeconomic recovery will be achieved sooner if we invest in inclusive, responsive, and accountable governance systems,” the DBM chief said.
“We need to establish public trust in our institutions that will strengthen our commitment to carry our people forward into a peaceful future," she added.
Pangandaman also recognized the important contribution of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), People's Organizations, and grassroots level activities to promote peace in region.
"OGPinas, is for you—so that we can dialogue and work together towards transforming Mindanao from a land of promise to a land of promises fulfilled,” the official aid.
“To my fellow Mindanaoans, maximize this opportunity—talk, participate, and dialogue,” Pangandama said.
She further emphasized the importance of working together to realize their goal of an open government to bring about the changes needed for enduring peace and prosperity in Mindanao.
An estimated 200 individuals from Mindanao regions joined in the OGPinas! National Advocacy Campaign event.
