10-year-old 'human trafficking victim' rescued -- NBI


A 10-year-old girl who was believed victim of human trafficking has been rescued by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Candelaria, Quezon.

The rescue was done by the operatives of the NBI’s Anti-Human Trafficking Division (NBI-AHTRAD) with the assistance of the Lucena District Office (NBI-LUCDO) and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) of Candelaria.

The information on the victim was referred by the Australian Federal Police through the Philippine Internet Crimes Against Children Center, the NBI said.  

“A Filipino citizen was arrested and charged in Australia with child-exploitation-related crimes when child abuse and exploitation materials were found in his possession,” it said. 

During the investigation, the NBI said its agents AHTRAD were able to identify the address of one of the victims in Candelaria town. 

It said the probe is still ongoing to determine, arrest, and prosecute those responsible.
