175 families evacuated; 6 villages in Masbate submerged in floodwater

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay - A total of 175 families or 489 persons from six villages in Masbate province were evacuated due to flooding brought by incessant rains triggered by the shear line, the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Bicol said on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

Gremil Naz, OCD Bicol spokesperson, told the Manila Bulletin that as of 8 a.m of Nov. 21, the town of Dimasalang has recorded six families or 24 individuals already evacuated while San Pascual town evacuated three families or 11 individuals, and Uson town with 166 families or 454 individuals temporarily sheltered in evacuation centers.

Brgy. Magsaysay in Uson town was inundated in waist-deep floodwaters after the river in the area overflowed to almost one meter. The flooding also affected the nearby villages of Buenavista and Mabini.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) conducted rescue operations to residents trapped inside their residences since Monday morning.

MDRRMO Uson reported that among the areas affected in Brgy. Magsaysay are Purok 1 to 7.

Naz said relief operations are ongoing for the affected residents.
