A Japanese has been arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for presenting to immigration officers a fake Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV), the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Monday, Nov. 20.
The BI identified the foreigner as Yoshiaki Nakamura, 64, who was intercepted before he could board his flight to Osaka, Japan.
Nakamura was referred for secondary inspection after immigration officers suspected that he was holding a counterfeit visa.
“After validation from the agency’s forensic document’s laboratory, it was revealed that the SRRV visa affixed on his passport was counterfeit,” the BI said.
Nakamura is now detained at the BI's detention facility in Taguig City while awaiting deportation.
Possession and presentation of counterfeit visas "violate Philippine immigration laws and warrant serious consequences,” BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said in a statement.
"We remain committed to safeguarding the integrity of our immigration system and will take decisive action against those attempting to deceive or defraud it,” Tansingco assured.
