VIRAL: Model performs open-casket catwalk at friend’s funeral

Defends herself from online criticisms

Death is a natural part of life, and it's when the ones who are left behind are given the time to grieve. In this particular instance, a model from New Jersey chose to honor her friend in an unique way by performing a complete fashion runway walk during the funeral.

Based on a report from TMZ, Vernest Moore, a well known designer, passed away on October 22, 2023. Friends and family gathered in Newark, in New Jersey, for a special event called a "Red Carpet Viewing," where a red carpet was laid out leading to the designer's open casket.

A model named Erica L. Carrington, who is a friend of Vernest, arrived at the event and made a striking appearance on the catwalk wearing a stunning silver dress created by Vernest. The attendees at the red carpet viewing applauded her for her remarkable performance.

Erica then shared a video of her catwalk on Instagram on Nov. 12, 2023, stating that it was the most challenging thing she has ever done.

“I was hyperventilating almost up until the very moment I hit the runway. To say that this was one of the most challenging things I have had to do would be an understatement. I can't believe this would be my final walk for you, so I won't! From now on, even if I'm not walking for you, I will be walking with you, because I know you'll always be with me,” Erica wrote.

The video quickly went viral, and as a result, Erica then received backlash from netizens. Later, on Nov. 14, 2023, the model posted on Instagram, explaining her side of the story, stating that it was the designer's last wish.

During her appearance on TMZ Live, Erica disclosed that Vernest had prearranged a “three-day celebration” of his life with a friend before his passing. She also conveyed that those present at the viewing comprehended that her catwalk was a tribute, honoring friend's wishes.

"I still become emotional when I think about it and watch the video, as I unknowingly shared some of his final moments with him," she expressed, "So that simply illustrates the kind of person he was.”
