In a move to get feedbacks from persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) on how the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City is being managed, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) decided to install "suggestion boxes" within the prison compound.
In a statement, BuCor said the "suggestion boxes" would be the plaftform for PDLs "to voice their concerns, propose improvements, and contribute to the overall betterment of the correctional system.”
Already, "suggestion boxes" have been installed in strategic places around the NBP compound, it said.
It also said that the bureau "recognizes the value of PDLs' feedback by actively seeking their input, creating a more constructive and inclusive prison environment.”
“PDLs possess unique insight into the daily operations and challenges faced within the correctional system,” it noted.
“By actively seeking their input, it can be a valuable resource for prison administrators in gaining a deeper understanding of the issues at hand and potential solutions, which can lead to more informed decision-making, and the implementation of effective policies that addresses the concerns of PDLs and personnel, as well,” it added.
Last Oct. 27, BuCor Deputy Director General Gil T. Toralba persuaded all inmates who have been released to report BuCor officials and personnel who committed irregularities for investigation and appropriate action.
Toralba explained BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. created the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Unit (IMEU) which has the mandate to monitor and catch those involved in anomalous activities as well as recommend and honor those who have been performing their work well.
He assured that the names of former PDLs who would make a report would be kept anonymous.
