Immigration officers to use body cameras during secondary inspection of travellers
Immigration officers who will conduct secondary inspections of departing passengers at the airports will be using body-worn cameras, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said.
“Body cameras will ensure that our immigration officers are effective and remain accountable for their actions as law enforcers,” BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said in a statement.
“It would be easier for us to investigate complaints of misconduct with the use of body cams. It would also remind our officers to always be professional in the conduct of their duties,” he said.
He also said the BI has earmarked P16 million from its budget for the purchase of body cameras.
“We have already initiated the procurement process, and expect that by the end of this year we can start the deployment of immigration officers with body cameras,” he added.
Aside from the body cameras, Tansingco had earlier said the BI will be procuring more electronic gates that will be installed at the airports.
By the end of 2026, it is expected that BI's operations at the airports would be digitalized, he said.
