The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has deployed 50 newly trained immigration officers at the airports to beef up personnel with the expected influx of incoming and outgoing travellers this holiday season.
“We are fully prepared for the peak season and we are maximizing our manpower to better serve the traveling public,” BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said in a statement.
Tansingco said the BI projects four million passenger arrivals and 3.8 million departing passengers for this year's fourth quarter ending Dec. 31.
BI had disclosed that it had recorded in the past few days 32,000 average daily passenger arrivals and 36,000 daily average passenger departures.
It said the newly deployed immigration officers, who recently completed a condensed three-week Border Control Officers' module, are stationed at key locations, including Cebu, Bohol, Caticlan, and Clark international airports."
On top of deploying more immigration officers, the BI said it “mobilized augmentation and rapid response teams and introduced mobile counters to address peak travel times.”
