The family of slain broadcaster Percival C. Mabasa, popularly known as Percy Lapid, on Tuesday, Oct. 3, vowed to keep fighting to put behind bars those involved in the killing that happened a year ago in Las Pinas City.
“The family stand united in our call for swift justice to ensure that those responsible for this loss are held accountable,” Percival’s brother, veteran journalist Roy, said in a statement.
On this day, Roy said “we remember Ka Percy Lapid whose life was tragically cut short one year ago.”
“Let us honor Ka Percy's memory by advocating for a fair and transparent legal process that brings closure to his family and friends,” he said.
“May his legacy serve as a reminder that justice must prevail in our society,” he added.
The Las Pinas City regional trial court (RTC) issued an arrest warrant last April 14 against former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) director general Gerald Q. Bantag, former BuCor's deputy security officer CT/SSupt. Ricardo S. Zulueta, brothers Israel and Edmon Dimaculangan, and a person only known as Orly or Orlando.
They had been charged as principals in the killing of Percy Lapid. Both Bantag and Zulueta are at-large.
The RTC had already convicted Bantag’s other co-accused in the crime -- BuCor's persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) Aldrin Galicia, Alvin Labra and Alfie Peñaredonda who pleaded guilty to a lesser offense.
