State-run National Housing Authority (NHA) received the largest subsidy support from the national government in September this year to aid its goal of ensuring the country’s housing programs, data from the Bureau of the Treasury showed.
The national government gave away P21.26 billion in subsidies to government-owned and -controlled corporations (GOCCs) in September, with NHA receiving P11.11 billion, which accounted for 52 percent of the total subsidy disbursements.
Meanwhile, the government’s subsidies in September declined by 10 percent from P23.65 billion in the same period a year ago.
From January to September, NHA received a total of P16.63 billion in subsidies from the national government.
In the same month last year, the NHA did not receive any subsidies.
The National Irrigation Administration was another significant recipient of state aid, receiving P2.97 billion, higher than the previous year's subsidy of P2.66 billion.
Other GOCCs also received financial assistance from the government including the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp., receiving a P2.7 billion boost in finances, along with the National Electrification Administration and the National Food Authority, which were granted P1.4 billion and P1 billion, respectively.
The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority, meanwhile, cornered P446 million, while the Social Housing Finance Corp. received P386 million.
While two state-run government hospitals received subsidies with the Philippine Heart Center and Philippine Children's Medical Center receiving P178 million and P145 million, respectively.
Aside from the major recipients of state subsidies, the Treasury identified 27 other GOCCs that received financial support in September, with the amount of subsidies ranging from P3 million to P116 million.
Despite the subsidy reduction in September, the national government's total aid expenses for GOCCs in the first nine months of the year reached P137.13 billion, up by 12 percent than the P122.25 billion provided during the same period last year.
