The government's portion of the income generated by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) increased by 40 percent in the first eight months of the year.
According to the Bureau of the Treasury's report, the government's gaming regulator and operator contributed P21.59 billion in revenue to state coffers, higher than the P15.40 billion in the previous year.
Under the law, Pagcor is compelled to allocate 50 percent of its net revenue to the national government.
Pagcor, the government's third-largest revenue-generating agency, sent P2.76 billion to the Treasury in July alone, 21 percent higher compared to the P2.28 billion contributed in the same month last year.
Earlier, Alejandro Tengco, Pagcor chairman and chief executive officer, said the company was on track to surpass pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2023.
Pagcor’s revenue posted an upswing of 35.6 percent from January to June 2023, hitting P36.21 billion compared to P26.7 billion in the same period last year.
From January to June, Pagcor’s revenues rose up by 35.64 percent to P36.2 billion on the strength of improved gaming operations.
“The higher income from gaming operations during the first semester of this year was driven by the increase in total industry gross gaming revenue (GGR),” Pagcor said.
GGR during the first half rose 48.68 percent to P136.37 billion.
Further, the agency posted P58.96 billion in total revenues in 2022 and estimates a total income of P75.49 billion by end 2023, according to PAGCOR Vice President Sharon Quintanilla
Pagcor projects a total income of P80.28 billion in 2024.
