MOVIEGOER: KC’s revelation & a ‘Lucky Day’

At a glance

  • KC has just finished her first international film, the romantic comedy Asian Persuasion, shot in New York City, starring two Filipino-Americans who have made inroads in Hollywood, Dante Basco and Paolo Montalban.

One of the most revealing statements that KC Concepcion said during a recent online interview was that during film shoots in the United States, meal time or shooting break on set is democratic.

“Meals aren’t touched until after the last crew member has gotten his food tray. Only then does the timer starts,” she said.

The once-inactive actress shared this bit of information with former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno during a guesting on the latter’s chat-all channel.

KC said the meal time practice was an example worth emulating in the local entertainment industry. If she had mentioned this earlier, I’m sure it would have been a good issue to raise at the Sen. Robin Padilla-led industry forum held September 23 in Mandaluyong City.

In the local setting, crew members and utility boys are considered the lowest-ranking in the hierarchy of movie workers on set. They also get the least pay.

"Asian Persuasion," directed by Tony-winning producer Jhett Tolentino, premiered at the SOHO International Film Festival in New York last
September.

I have a feeling It’s Your Lucky Day, ABS-CBN’s temporary replacement program to suspended ‘It’s Showtime,’ is going to live a life of its own after the initial target run of 12 days.

The program, hosted by Luis Manzano, premiered on Oct. 14 with a big array of cast members and guest artists. Its biggest come-on is the huge amounts of money handed out to lucky studio gamers.

How wonderful, and also quite timely, that on Day 1, a tearful woman candidate bagged the grand prize of 54,000 pesos! Scenes such as these go around, spread fast by word of mouth, creating a phenomenon, making a TV hit.

Luis is still a fun guy to watch, quick with his antics and witticism as he gets ample support from co-host Melai Cantiveros. He looks rather heavy, though, or is it just my poor eye?

Bet the show is off to a longer haul. I suspect Lucky Day can be a good pre-programming to It’s Showtime in no time.

It takes all kinds. Did you hear about that 23-year-old vlogger, Nichola Kratka of Los Angeles, California, who ate a large, tapeworm-infested mouth bass to increase online viewership?

Describing himself as an “extreme eater,” Kratka endured intolerable stomach ache later in exchange for million views.

The guy would do anything to keep his 6.1 million followers on TikTok intact.
