DOJ to file in court non-bailable drugs cases vs 5 persons arrested in Paranaque City
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has approved the filing of criminal cases in court against five suspected traders who were caught with P68 million worth of illegal drugs during a buy-bust operation conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) last Oct. 13 in Paranaque City.
The non-bailable illegal drugs cases will be filed before the Paranaque regional trial court (RTC) against Joemy B. Gumbay, Jonjon M. Almario, Ysmael B. Abas, Jonnard D. Moldez, and Sittie Mariam B. Gumbay.
They will be charged with violations of sale of dangerous drugs under Section 5 of Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
In a statement, the DOJ said: "The next course of action involves filing non-bailable criminal charges against the aforementioned persons before the RTC of Paranaque City."
The DOJ said the five suspected illegal drugs dealers were arrested last Friday, Oct. 13, at their residence located in Moonwalk, Paranaque City.
“The arrest revolved around a drug sale transaction involving approximately 999.40 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride, known as ‘shabu’,” it said.
“Further inspection revealed there were an additional 8,983.68 grams of shabu in their possession, totaling 9,983.08 grams across ten foil packages,” it added.
Following their arrest, the PDEA presented the five suspects for inquest before the DOJ for violating Sections 5, 12, and 15 of RA 9165.
“However, charges stemming from Section 12 (possession of drug paraphernalia) and Section 15 (use of dangerous drugs) were dismissed due to lack of merit,” the DOJ noted.
