Being called “Isip-bata” has often carried negative connotations, implying immaturity, a lack of life experiences, or unreliability. It used to be considered a hurtful remark, leaving individuals, especially kids, feeling diminished. But as the Tang Kidnovator Camp participants and winners set out to prove, being “isip-bata” is an advantage and something to be proud of.

To inspire young minds to showcase their creativity and innovative thinking, grades four to eight students from different private and public schools came together to send video entries on how they envision a brighter future for all. Tasked with the challenge to showcase their compelling video entries, sharing their ingenious solutions to address the pressing issue of electricity scarcity in 1,635 primary and secondary schools nationwide, all achieved through the innovative use of Tang packs.
Amidst the comfort of taking electricity for granted, these students recognized the profound impact of its absence on the productivity of every student in these affected schools. Alarming statistics revealed that primary schools lacking electricity underperformed by a staggering 12 percent compared to those equipped with power.
Fueled by their passion for positive change, a talented pool of 36 students stood out as the chosen few. These dreamers were selected to participate in the highly anticipated Tang Kidnovator Camp last Sept. 30, Oct. 1, and Oct. 7 at the Novotel Manila Araneta City.
In the three-day camp, young Kidnovators transformed big dreams into tangible solutions. The Kidnovators formed nine teams to tackle the issue of providing electricity to schools through the creative repurposing of Tang Packs.
Out of the nine teams, a select three advanced to the finals. Following a detailed presentation and a thorough deliberation process led by a distinguished panel of experts and the esteemed Tang representatives, Kidnovators Jeanine Faith Refran, Jasmine Gimoro, Jindrich Queen Naome Bernabe, and John Raine Pablo won with their idea of a salt water, magnesium, and carbon-based lamp. Their real-life solution stands as a true testament to the incredible potential of #YanAngIsipBata.
Moreover, Tang has pledged to bring the idea to life by ensuring its practical implementation. As an added reward, the triumphant Kidnovator team receives a cash prize of P400,000 while teams that placed first and second runner-up won P200,000 and P100,000, respectively. Beyond the recognition, the cash prize, and the idea that will be brought to life by Tang, the school of each winning member will also receive generators and portable chargers estimated to be worth P50,000, creating a suitable and conducive environment for learning.
The significance of the Tang Kidnovator Camp extends far beyond the noble cause of bringing electricity to those in need. It serves as a powerful reminder to society about the importance of valuing kids’ voices and opinions, as well as nurturing their creative and innovative ideas. After all, who could better understand what kids really need than their fellow young minds?
