From being the officer in charge (OIC) of Malacañang's communication arm, Undersecretary Cheloy Garafil is now the new secretary of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).

Garafil was sworn into office by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, according to PCO.
Prior to the designation, Garafil served as the OIC of the PCO, which was previously called Office of the Press Secretary (OPS), since October 2022.
Garafil was first tapped by the President to help run the OPS, following the resignation of its former head Trixie Cruz-Angeles.
Malacañang's communication unit has undergone various changes since Marcos assumed the presidency.
In July, Marcos renamed the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) to OPS as part of his goal to abolish redundant positions, divisions, and units.
Marcos did not designate an OPS secretary for months and instead tapped television host and former reporter Daphne Oseña-Paez as "Malacañang press briefer" in December last year.
Palace did not call Paez's function as of a spokesperson but as a personality who will be delivering news and information on the projects and programs of the administration to the media regularly.
Then early this month, Marcos once again reorganized the Office of the President, including the renaming of OPS to PCO.
