Undersecretary Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil, who is now the officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Office of Press Secretary (OPS), disclosed that President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. tapped her to transfer to Malacañang last week after erstwhile press secretry Trixie Cruz-Angeles resigned.

Gerafil said the President told her he needs someone to help the office while it has yet to have a chief.
"Naging usapan namin last week, pinatawag niya ako and he said na kailangan ng someone sa OPS na makatulong (Our conversation last week when he called for me and he said he needs someone to help OPS). Then he offered me the OIC position, so I said yes of course," Gerafil told reporters on Monday, Oct. 10.
She assumed as OIC at a time when several names have been floated as Angeles' possible successors.
Garafil, who was the former chairperson of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), does not mind whether she serves at the OPS as an officer-in-charge or as a full-fledged press secretary as long as he has the President's trust and confidence.
"Iyon yung kanyang in-offer at yun ang ating tinanggap (This is what he offered and it was what I accepted)," Garafil said when asked why she was only offered to be an OIC and not the secretary position.
"Sa akin naman di na importante kung OIC or full-fledged secretary. Ang mahalaga sa akin yung trust and confidence na binigay sa atin ng pangulo na binigyan niya tayo ng pagkakataon at trust na makatulong sa OPS (For me, it's not important whether OIC or full-fledged secretary. What's important is the trust and confidence given to me by the President, that he gave us a chance and trust to help the OPS)," she added.
The Palace official also said that there will be "changes around the operations." She said they will be having a meeting formally on the operations of the OPS.
"But definitely you will see some changes in the coming week," she said.
Garafil resigned from her post on Friday, Oct. 7, after accepting the offer to help the OPS as its Undersecretary and OIC.
The press secretary post has been vacant since Oct. 5, following the resignation of Angeles supposedly due to health reasons.
