Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Chairman and Governor Eli M. Remolona took to the stage as he raised a celebratory glass during the special occasion of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) 30th Anniversary Reception for the Banking Community.
This milestone event took place at the BSP head office in Roxas Boulevard, Manila, on a delightful Friday evening, July 28, 2023.
In Remolona's speech, he acknowledged the strong recovery from the pandemic crisis, attributing it to the well-maintained banking system. He also expressed gratitude to the banking sector and Deputy Governor Chuchi Fonacier for their efforts.
He also highlighted the challenge of inflation caused by supply shocks, emphasizing the need for tight monetary policy.
Remolona mentioned the progress in digitalizing the payments system, aiming for 50 percent of retail payments to be in digital form. They mention the increase in financial inclusion, with more Filipinos having bank accounts.
Remolona expressed his excitement about these developments and thanked Deputy Governors Mert Tangonan and Berna Romulo Puyat for their contributions.
The BSP Chairman and Governor encouraged all to work with government colleagues and stakeholders to deepen the capital market and strengthen sustainability efforts. He acknowledged Deputy Governor Ed Bobier and his team for their support and highlighted the institution's focus on becoming more responsive and future-ready.
After the speech, he called BSP Monetary Board (MB) members, Anita Linda R. Aquino, Finance Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno, and V. Bruce J. Tolentino, to join him for a toast.
