BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) is ready to provide free rides or “libreng sakay” to stranded commuters despite the assurance of the Baguio-Benguet Jeepney Federation and at least 16 jeepney trunk lines that they will not join the week-long transport strike that started Monday, March 6.
Col. Francisco Bulwayan Jr., BCPO chief, said police vehicles are on standby and ready to accommodate commuters.
He also ordered maximum deployment of police personnel to prevent possible breakdown of peace and order as a result of the transport holiday.
The BCPO has coordinated with the local government unit for free rides and assist in monitoring the status of traffic in areas affected by the strike and the reporting of any eventuality to the police.
The transport strike is in protest of the government’s transportation modernization program.
