600 kilos of chorizo seized in Surigao port

Agents of the Port Management Office of Surigao seized around 600 kilograms of chorizo that are believed to have been smuggled into the country.

In a statement, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said the items were inside a cargo truck when PMO Surigao Port police chanced upon the vehicle.

It said the confiscated item is worth P100,000.

Chorizo is a highly-seasoned chopped or ground sausage.

The PPA said its local officers have been monitoring reports of smuggling activities in the area for over a week before the confiscation of the chorizo pork. This, amid reports that there are still people transporting illegal pork products into Northern Mindanao.

The agency said the items had fake documents, leading to the confiscation.
