Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla said that United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial Killings Dr. Morris Tidball-Binz will return to the Philippines in May or August this year to help in capacity building program for Filipino forensic pathologists.
Remulla and Tidball-Binz met at the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Manila on Tuesday, Feb. 7. As of posting, the meeting is still ongoing.
Tidball-Binz arrived last Monday, Feb. 6, not in his official capacity as UN rapporteur but as a forensic expert.
Remulla said the United Nations Joint Program (UNJP) has a program with the Philippines for the capacity building of Filipino forensic pathologists.
“This will be under the UNJP program. We are asking the UNJP to fund it so that we can continue with the program,” he said.
Being a forensic pathology expert, Remulla said that when he was in Switzerland in 2022, he invited Tidball-Binz to visit the Philippines.
Tidball-Binz will be in the Philippines until Wednesday, Feb. 8. He will meet with various civil society groups, Remulla said.
