Holcim partners with UAP on sustainable construction

Leading building solutions provider Holcim Philippines, Inc., has partnered with the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) to further raise awareness on the importance of sustainable construction and the company’s readiness to support local builders in this area.

Holcim Commercial Influencer Engagement Manager Rein Reyes signed the agreement with officials of the UAP on Jan. 19.

In a statement, Holcim said they will join the UAP’s gatherings in North and Central Luzon, Greater Manila Region, Visayas and Mindanao in February and the 48th National Convention and Exhibits in April to share its ability to support sustainable construction in the Philippines.

The company will also promote the Holcim Awards for Sustainable Construction, one of the most prestigious sustainable design competitions in the world with $1 million in total prizes at stake, to encourage participation of Filipino architects.

Holcim Philippines President and CEO Horia Adrian cited the key role architects play in sustainable construction as their creativity and designs greatly shape how structures are made. “With green building and sustainable construction increasingly becoming the norm, we aim to work more closely with architects in realizing their visions through our sustainable and innovative solutions. Holcim is committed to provide solutions for building more with less materials, new buildings using recycled materials from old buildings, and more efficient buildings using smart design and materials,” said Adrian.

Holcim Philippines has stepped up efforts to highlight the importance of using more innovative building materials and practices that are better for the environment and provide superior construction performance amid continued economic growth and finite natural resources.

The company is advocating for local builders to shift to new building solutions with a lower environment footprint such as blended cements made with recycled materials.

The cement firm also provides the market with specialized blended cement options such as Holcim Solido for roads, Holcim Excel for general applications and Holcim Wallright Prime for masonry.

The company has also introduced in the Philippines ECOPlanet, its most environment-friendly cement with at least 30% lower carbon footprint than traditional portland cement.
