NBI arrests 7 persons 'operating poultry farm without permit' in Palompon, Leyte

Seven persons have been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Palompon, Leyte for “operating without permit” a poultry farm inside a forest land in Palompon, Leyte.
Those arrested were identified by the NBI as Christian David Calo Madrona, Milven Gonzaga Cardello, Domingo Boringa Bulahan, Sunny Boy Merced Isidto, Bryan Joseph Magallanes, Jonathan Cabo Calo, and Gina Labor Quimbo.
They were arrested by agents of the NBI’s Environment Crime Division (NBI-EnCD) last Jan. 17 and charged with violations of Section 78 in relation to Section 20 of Presidential Decree No. 705, the Revised Forestry Code.
“The operation stemmed from a complaint alleging the existence of a poultry establishment located inside a parcel of land classified as Timberland/Forest Land in Barangay Lat-osan, Palompon, Leyte,” the NBI said.
After a series of surveillance, it said its NBI-EnCD was able to locate and identify the poultry farm as Zachary Farm where the seven suspects were arrested.
“Verification made with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region VIII revealed that no permits were issued to any entities/ individuals in the said area,” it also said.
