The agricultural damage caused by super typhoon Karding in the country has climbed to P160 million, the Department of Agriculture (DA) bared.

In the DA’s Bulletin No. 4 released on Tuesday, Sept. 27, the agriculture department said the latest estimate covers the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Bicol Region.
As the damage estimate went up, the DA said the number of affected farmers also climbed to 3,780 farmers and fisherfolk.
The department said the total affected areas is 16,659 hectares, with 7,457 metric tons of volume of production loss.
The affected commodities in the recent bulletin of the DA include rice, corn, high-value crops, and fisheries.
Meanwhile, the DA said such “values are subject to validation” as additional damage and losses are expected in areas affected by the typhoon.
The DA earlier said it has made available for distribution to affected farmers and fishers a total of 133,240 bags of rice seeds; 5,729 bags of corn seeds; and 4,911 kilograms of assorted vegetable seeds from affected regions. The department also said it provide drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), on the other hand, will provide fingerlings to affected fishermen as well as help.
Quick Response Fund, or QRF, worth P500 million will also be provided by the agriculture department for the rehabilitation of the affected areas.
