DepEd to release updated guidelines on face mask use in schools
Following the approval of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos to allow voluntary use of face masks in open areas, the Department of Education (DepEd) is set to release updated guidelines for schools that implement in-person classes.

“We will issue the guidelines very, very soon,” said DepEd Spokesperson Michael Poa during a presser on Thursday, Sept. 15.

Poa said that DepEd is also coordinating with the Department of Health (DOH) to make the necessary adjustments in the health protocols, especially for schools that implement face-to-face classes this school year.
DepEd, he added, will “consult” the DOH regarding the use of face masks among learners and teachers taking into consideration the times that they stay outdoors or in open spaces.
“We will incorporate them in the health guidelines,” Poa said in a mix of English and Filipino.
DepEd formally opened the School Year (SY) 2022-2023 in public schools on Aug. 22. During the three-month transition period, schools were allowed to implement blended learning until Oct. 31.

Based on the guidelines for school opening set by DepEd this year, all schools --- both public and private --- will need to implement the five days in-person classes starting Nov. 2.
