The Department of Education (DepEd) will allow public schools nationwide to implement the learning delivery modality of their choice before the mandatory resumption of full face-to-face classes in November.
“Schools will have the discretion on what it will implement during the first three months of the transition period,” said DepEd Spokesperson Michael Poa in a presser last week.
Classes in public schools nationwide will start on Aug. 22.

Based on the guidelines issued for School Year (SY) 2022-2023, DepEd only prescribed the options of five (5) days of in-person classes, blended learning modality, and full distance learning until Oct. 31.
Starting Nov. 2, DepEd said that “all public and private schools shall have transitioned to 5 days of in-person classes.”

During last week’s meeting, Poa said instructions were given on the ground to assess which schools will implement the said learning delivery modes.
“We are gathering data on which schools will implement 5 days of in-person classes, blended learning modality, and full distance learning,” Poa said in a mix of English and Filipino.
“The schools have the option to implement either of these three modes,” he added.
Meanwhile, Poa said that DepEd is also conducting a mapping of schools that need learning materials --- especially in those affected by calamities like Abra and other provinces.
“We are confident that there’s enough materials right now in the DepEd warehouses,” he added.
For isolated schools, Poa said that there is already a long-term plan to address the challenges they encounter.
Currently, Poa explained that schools are also given flexibility in terms of funding through the use of their Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) to address the immediate challenges related to school opening.
