Garcia supports BSKE holding in December

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia is for the holding of the December 2022 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls.

In a press briefing on Wednesday, August 3, Garcia said he is always for the conduct of the elections.

"Personally, I’m always for the election. I’m an election practitioner," he said.

"It is the best symbol of democracy," added Garcia.

At present, he said, preparations for the forthcoming poll exercise are ongoing.

"Some of our people are in Bohol planning for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections," Garcia said.

To note, there are proposals to postpone the BSKE.

Garcia expressed hope that the decision on whether to postpone or not the BSKE will be out this month.

Comelec already said that should a legislation be passed to postpone, re-set or re-schedule the Dec. 5, 2022 BSKE, the poll body will "comply in accordance with its Constitutional Mandate, as it had done previously, and will ensure that necessary adjustments and corresponding actions be taken not just mitigate said impact, but more so to ensure that all electoral exercises be conducted with credibility, orderliness, accuracy and integrity."
