KFC adds chicken feet to menu

In China, inflation has pushed the fast food restaurant to include the part of the chicken to its offerings

Patrons of KFC would soon be able to purchase finger-lickin’ good chicken feet in China. Yum China (YUMC) CEO Joey Wat broke the news in a recent interview with CNN Business, saying, “I can report back that for this year, for 2022, we are finally selling chicken feet.”

The sudden and unexpected menu addition is due to high oil prices caused by the ongoing pandemic and the war in Ukraine. This leads to a surge in food and oil costs everywhere.

The decision to serve the Chinese delicacy aims to increase efficiency and make sure that all the parts of the poultry are utilized “except the feathers,” says Wat.

Will we be seeing the Adidas (chicken feet) and maybe the other parts of the chicken, perhaps the isaw (intestine) and the neck to be offered in the Philippines? Because, why not?

“We try to absorb this commodity price increase, with full utilization of the chicken,” Wat explains.

The Shanghai-based company, YUMC, owns KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell in China. It has been reported that the company is emerging from its toughest quarter ever, with a 16 percent sales drop from open locations as compared with the same period last year.

From April through June, YUMC sales at locations open dropped by 16 percent compared with the same period the year before.

KFC in China also introduced chicken wing tips in line with their effort to use up more ingredients.

Will we be seeing the Adidas (chicken feet) and maybe the other parts of the chicken, perhaps the isaw (intestine) and the neck to be offered in the Philippines? Because, why not?
