MVP pledges P100 M for construction of 1 floor at Cebu City Medical Center

CEBU CITY – The construction of the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) received a major boost after business tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan pledged P100 million to complete one floor of the 10-story facility.

The city Public Information Office (PIO) reported that Pangilinan made the pledge when Mayor Michael Rama and other City Hall officials met him at the Philippine Long Distance Telecommunications Corporate Headquarters in Makati City Tuesday, August 9.

Rama said he is in Manila for a series of meetings with businessmen. He called the trip “marathon investment begging.”

He said his meetings with businessmen and possible investors in Manila are part of his vision for a Singapore-like Cebu City.

Rama said that the vision will not be realized “if you don’t beg for people to be in for all this what we call Singapore-like Cebu City.”

“This is all for Singapore-like Cebu City and that includes the completion of CCMC,” Rama said.

According to the city PIO, a group of Filipino-Chinese investors also committed to pool resources to raise P100 million to complete another floor at CCMC.

In his meeting with Pangilinan, Rama showed a video of the city’s plan to transform Cebu into a Singapore-like city.

The CCMC is currently constructing the eighth to tenth floors.

Apart from committing to build a floor of the CCMC, Pangilinan also reportedly expressed interest to construct a hospital in Cebu City under the Metro Pacific Investments Corp.
