Anumang uri ng karahasan ay walang lugar sa ating lipunan kung nais nating umunlad at kumawala mula sa imahe ng kaguluhan sa ating lalawigan (I want to emphasize: At any time or for any reason, there is no reason to take a life. All types of violence have no place in our society if we want to advance and remove the image of chaos in our province),” Hataman declared.

“It is our hope that this latest act of violence would not progress into a series of violent actions. Huwag nating hayaang maging normal ang pagkitil ng buhay sa ating kultura, lalo na kapag nadadamay ang mga inosenteng mamamayan (Let us not normalize the taking of lives in our culture, especially if innocent citizens are affected),” he continued.

“It is not who we are as Basileños, as Filipinos and as human beings. We’ve come so far here in Basilan and the goal of every one of us should be to ensure that what we do not let our struggles and our sacrifices go to waste so that we can enjoy the prosperity we have now),” Hataman said.

The Basilan representative asked that no judgments or accusations be made against the families involved.

Ang mga haka-haka o akusasyong walang basehan ay hindi makakatulong, at maaaring maging mitsa pa ng karagdagang karahasan (Let us not judge, criticize, or instigate the feelings of the bereaved families. Everyone is grieving. Baseless accusations will not help and may incite further violence),” he ended.
