Palace rallies support for Sara as she takes oath as VP

Malacañang urged the public to stand behind outgoing Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte as she takes her oath as the country's 15th Vice President.

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said this as Duterte held her inauguration ceremony in Davao City on June 19.

In a statement, Andanar reiterated President Duterte's call for the public to support all incoming leaders.

"As we previously articulated, let us stand behind Vice President-elect Duterte-Carpio and all other newly elected leaders as they embark on the responsibilities and challenges of their offices and fulfill their mandate of delivering genuine change to our beloved country," he said.

The acting Palace spokesman thanked the public for entrusting Duterte with the second-highest government post as he expressed excitement about her oath-taking ceremony.

"We are one with the whole Filipino nation in witnessing with excitement the inauguration ceremony of outgoing Davao City Mayor," Andanar said.

"We once again express our deep gratitude to the Filipino people for the trust and support they have given to the Vice President-elect," he added.

The Presidential daughter won the vice-presidential race in the May 2022 polls with over 30 million votes.

President Duterte is set to attend his daughter's inauguration after being absent for her proclamation. It is no secret that the two are not in talking terms since August last year.

Duterte had repeatedly said that he was against his daughter running for President. However, he said he was clueless why she decided to run only for Vice President.

Despite not being on speaking terms, the President endorsed Sara's candidacy, even asking the public to shade her circle last. He did not support the candidacy of her running-mate, President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

Duterte had even joked that the country would have two Dutertes leading the country for 11 days and that he and Sara should just continue this trend.
