Some friends and I usually leave the country days before June 8, my birthday, to celebrate (para kunwari sosyal!) But the pandemic didn’t allow us to do this for two consecutive years. (medyo nakatipid ha!) We are just thankful that for this year, local travel is feasible. We thought of exploring Dumaguete and Siquijor for their beaches. (para makapagbilad ng katawang lupa!) I was, of course, with forever travel buddy Francis Bryan Talatala, and invited his fellow nurses Orland and Mary Jane Lautchang and Atty Tina Barao (sa susunod magsasama na kami ng mga taga alter world pandagdag sa cast!)
We left Manila for Dumaguete on the very day of my birthday. (so sinalubong ko ito sa kalawakan!) It was a chill moment in Dumaguete. We enjoyed walking along the Dumaguete Boulevard. (feeling turista ganyan) They also gave me a surprise birthday dinner treat at the Casa Blanca Restaurant (kunwari nagulat ako. kahit natunugan ko ang surprise!)

The next day, we went to Manjuyod Sandbar via bangka. We skipped the usual Dolphin watching. (ang aga kasi ng call time, 6am!) We just had lunch at the sandbar while appreciating the clean and amazing beauty of the beach.
(eat, swim, picture-picture… repeat!) The beach staff prepared grilled pork and seafoods. We also ordered fresh oysters and sea urchins (bagong hango sa dagat, ang lalaki! Hilaw ha! suka lang ilalagay!).
Before leaving Dumaguete, we scheduled massage sessions (hanggang sa malamog katawan namin! Sarap nila magmasahe!) and ate the town’s famous sans rival and silvanas. (hanggang sa mahilo sa busog!)

Our next stop was Siquijor. We took the ferry to reach the island. (may biyaheng 50 mins na ocean jet, meron ding ferry na 2 hrs!) I consulted singer friend Jessa Zaragoza before visiting the place because her husband DingDong Avanzado was Siquijor’s Vice Governor years ago. She recommended Coco Grove Resort. (go kami dun bilang uto uto kami. chos!) We enjoyed our stay here. (maayos, mabait ang staff at may party-party pa sa gabi! Magperform nga sana ako, wala lang akong costume!)
We had the chance to experience the fish spa (yung papakeme ang paa sa mga isda) sa The Old Enchanted Balete Tree. (walang laban ang Enchanted Kingdom!) We will also not forget the Cambugahay Falls. (yung pa-balsa para makapagshower sa falls!) I had the courage to try the swing. (yung swing, tapos talon sa water!):

Lifeguard: “Malalim po yang babagsakan nyong tubig sir.”
MF: “Ok lang marunong naman ako lumangoy. “
Lifeguard: “Basta sunod lang po kayo sa sasabihin ko. “
MF: “Ok go!”
(so kapit ako sa tali. Tinulak nako ni kuya para magswing. Tapos sinabihang talon!)
MF: (pagkatalon sa tubig, biglang umikot sa isip ko ) “ay….P…….! malalim nga! " (napamura talaga!)
Thank you Dumaguete and Siquijor for the unforgettable celebration and vacation. Aside from the great tourist attractions, we also love your people. No wonder Dumaguete is called City of Gentle People while Siquijor is considered the country’s healing island. (na binulabog naming ng slight ha!)
