Filipino music fans are doing a countdown as they await the much-anticipated onstage collaboration of three of the country’s most iconic pop music divas in one big production number in this weekend’s staging of “Iconic,” a concert topbilled by the Mega-Star, Sharon Cuneta, and Asia’s Songbird, Regine Velasquez, at the Marriott Grand Ballroom (MGB) in Newport City, Pasay.

The triple treat will happen in a special segment within the show wherein Cuneta and Velasquez will pay tribute to Asia’s Queen of Songs, Ms. Pilita Corrales, who both described as more than iconic but legendary.

“I’m so happy na she will be a part of our concert.  Kase sa totoo lang, siya talaga yung icon,” said Regine in a recent press conference, to which Cuneta quipped: “Parang pwede na kaming tumabi.”

More than being someone who they both idolize for being one of the country’s original divas, Corrales, they shared, has a special spot in their hearts.

Velasquez says the Cebuana Queen played an instrumental role in her humble beginnings in show business:  “I came from Ang Bagong Kampeon, which she hosted.  I loved her ever since kasi since she hosted that TV Show, singing contest.  I’m so happy parang full circle din ito para sa akin.”

Cuneta, on the other hand, almost tearfully confessed how she got to appreciate Corrales’ singing even as a young girl as Pilita was her father, former Pasay City Mayor Pablo Cuneta’s favourite: “Love nya kasi si Tita Pilita.  I grew up on her songs.  And if he could only see that his daughter is performing with his favourite… It is very personal for me.  I’m very proud to be performing with Tita Pilita although I’ve known her for years. I just wish daddy was here.”

In a video message, Pilita, for her part, thanked Sharon and Regine for giving her the chance to share the stage with her in this week’s performances.

With tickets now close to sold out status, “Iconic” hits the stage on June 17 and 18 at the MGB in Newport City, Pasay starting at 8pm.  Remaining tickets are still available from TicketWorld and SM Tickets Outlets.
