Comelec to shutdown AES servers, network infrastructure Monday

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will shutdown on Monday, May 30, the three automated elections system (AES) servers and network infrastructure used in the May 9 polls.

The poll body announced the shutdown in an advisory Sunday, May 29.

"The public is hereby informed that the Commission on Elections on 30 May 2022 will commence the shutdown of the AES system and network infrastructure in relation to the 2022 National and Local Elections," the advisory read.

These AES system and network infrastructure, the Comelec said, are the Central Data Center in Taguig City, Transparency Data Center in Parañaque City, and Backup Data Center in Quezon City.

In a separate interview, Comelec Acting Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said the activity is part of the post election procedures.

"Just like with the Transparency Server, there will be a backing up procedure to be followed by the shutdown processes," he said.

In the advisory, the poll body also said that the shutdown shall be done in the presence of political parties, and citizens' arm groups.

"Open to witnesses for purposes of transparency but not for live coverage due to security considerations," said Laudiangco.

The activity will be streamed live on the Comelec official Facebook page (facebook.com/comelec.ph) and YouTube Channel (youtube.com/COMELEC).
