Comelec won't set deadline on F2 Logistics probe of 'mishandled' election paraphernalia

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Tuesday, May 24, that it will not impose a deadline to its investigation of the suspected mishandling of election paraphernalia that were found abandoned in a vacant lot in Amadeo, Cavite.

Comelec acting spokesperson Director John Rex Laudiangco said the poll body has already directed F2 Logistics to respond to their query why black boxes containing secrecy folders, copies of election returns, non-accountable forms, pens, stamp pads, and indelible ink were improperly disposed after the May 9 elections.

However, Laudiangco said setting a hard deadline for the logistics firm to respond to Comelec’s queries will be “impossible” to do since it will be “counter-productive” to the probe.

“There’s no deadline yet. As we all know, if we want the investigation to be exhaustive, you do not set a hard deadline,” he said.

“But of course, we also would not want to be lax when it comes to our investigation. We need to put pressure to hasten it. As to setting a hard deadline, that is impossible and it’s counter-productive,” he added.

Nonetheless, Laudiangco assured that the investigation will be “thorough” and “comprehensive,” adding that the Comelec will be transparent whatever the results will be.

The Comelec’s Packing and Shipping Committee chaired by Commissioner Aimee Ferolino previously asked the F2 Logistics why election paraphernalia were left in Amadeo town when these should be properly accounted for at the Comelec warehouse in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

The Comelec has a P535.99 million contract with F2 Logistics for all logistical requirements of the 2022 automated elections.
