13 Cebu City schools start limited face-to-face classes

CEBU CITY -- Thirteen public schools here have resumed holding face-to-face classes.

The opening of the limited in-persons classes last May 17 went smooth, the Department of Education (DepEd)-Cebu City Division reported.

The schools that were allowed to resume face-to-face classes were the Sinsin Elementary School, Sinsin National High School, Bitlang Integrated School, Mangabon Elementary School, Lusaran National High School, Cantipla Integrated School, Tabunan Integrated School, DEOSIS, Pamutan Integrated School, Tagba-o National High School, Sibugay Integrated School, Taptap Integrated School and Adlaon Integrated School.

These schools were given a ‘safety seal’ by the regional office of DepEd that allowed them to resume holding in-person classes. These schools are located in areas with zero Covid-19 cases in the past two months.

Bernadette Susvilla, Assistant School Division Superintendent, said the 13 schools were chosen to start holding face-to-face classes because of their location which is far from the city.

The 13 schools were supposed to start holding face-to-face classes last March but were stalled due to Typhoon Odette.

“The opening was successful. The children were so excited because they were finally back in the classroom. Our teachers were in full-force to give necessary assistance,” said Susvilla.

Susvilla said each classroom is limited to only 20 students and only those who are vaccinated will be allowed to attend face-to-face classes.

Dr. Rhea Mar Angtud, DepEd-Cebu City Division Superintendent, said the holding of limited face-to-face classes is one way of finding out what would be the difficulties that will be encountered when regular classes resume.

The limited face-to-face classes will last for two weeks and if needed, may be extended until the end of the school year on June 7.

Aside from the limited face-to-face classes, the modular, offline and online mode of classes are continuing, said Angtud.

On May 30, 37 schools located in the downtown area will also start holding limited face-to-face classes, Angtud said.
