COMELEC sees local politics as the reason that could delay senate, party-list proclamations
Local disruptions in the counting could delay the proclamations of the winning senatorial candidates and party-lists, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) said.

“What will hinder perhaps only certain local problems especially local politics,” said COMELEC Commissioner George Garcia said.
Garcia pointed this out as the poll body is eyeing to proclaim within the week the winning senatorial candidates and party-lists for the House of Representatives.
“We are hoping we can finish everything by Saturday. We can have a proclamation by Sunday,” the commissioner said.
Among the the things the could hinder this, the lawyer cited the delays in the provincial canvass.
“Medyo may mga ilang politiko, local, dinedelay yung canvass (There are some local politicians who are trying to delay the canvass),” Garcia said.
The commissioner cited in particular some incumbent officials who are seen to be unseated.
Garcia said this was not a problem when the elections was not yet automated.
“Dati kasi yung manual election natin pwede natin ipa-separate yung canvass ng national sa canvass ng loca (During the manual election the canvass for the national and local positions can be done separately),” he recounted.
“Ngayon kasi (Now) how can you do that when you have a computerized election?” Garcia pointed out.
