Solon says fuel subsidy distribution shouldn't be made political
House Deputy Speaker and Cagayan De Oro 2nd district Rep. Rufus Rodriguez said that the Commission on Election (Coomelec) should not consider the distribution of fuel subsidies political nor campaign spending.

“It is a government agency that is giving the money to PUV drivers. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) should not allow any politician to meddle or be associated with the distribution. The process should be devoid of politics,” Rodriguez said in a statement on Thursday, April 7.
This, following the Comelec’s approval of the LTFRB petition to resume fuel subsidy distribution.
“The Comelec should not wait for more increases in the pump prices of diesel, gasoline and other oil products before approving LTFRB’s application for an exemption from the spending ban,” he said.
Originally, the Comelec actually suspended the LTFRB’s distribution of fuel subsidies on April 4.
The transportation board then petitioned to overturn the suspension.
On April 6, the Comelec announced that they had approved the LTFRB petition, but included certain implementation guidelines.
According to the LTFRB, about 110,200 of the intended beneficiaries out of 377,000 had received funds from the subsidy as of April 5.
Meanwhile, as of April 5, some oil companies enacted a fuel price rollback; gasoline to go down P2.30 per liter, diesel by P1.85 per liter, and kerosene to go down by P1.65 per liter.
