Comelec ban halts LTFRB's fuel subsidy distribution

The distribution of fuel subsidies for drivers and operators of public utility vehicles has been suspended in compliance with the order of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced on Monday, April 4.

The LTFRB is referring to the Ban on Disbursement of the Comelec.

But the agency said it is seeking an exemption from the Comelec ban amid the increasing prices of oil products.

The LTFRB said that a hearing was conducted in line with its application for the exemption last March 29. It is currently waiting for Comelec’s go-signal to resume the fuel subsidy distribution.

Out of the 264,578 beneficiaries, a total of 109,080 are drivers of public utility jeepneys (PUJs) while a total of 1,207 are drivers of public utility buses (PUBs).

LBP is still processing or producing cards for 86,844 beneficiaries, while LTFRB is processing applications from 67,447 beneficiaries.

For taxi, the LTFRB disclosed that a total of 22,932 drivers would receive P6,500 per unit, while 44,515 beneficiaries are for validation and preparation of payroll.

For delivery services under Department of Trade and IndustryI, the LTFRB revealed that a total of 27,777 beneficiaries have already received P4,500 per unit through either Paymaya or GCash.

Meanwhile, LTFRB said that it has yet to receive a list of beneficiaries from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to distribute the subsidies to tricycle drivers-beneficiaries.
