Muntinlupa's 2 Covid-19 cases are seafarers

The Muntinlupa City government reported on April 4 that the remaining two active Covid-19 cases are seafarers who did not get infected in the city.

Based on data from the City Health Office (CHO), as of April 4, all the nine barangays in Muntinlupa recorded zero new Covid-19 cases and there are only two active cases, the lowest tally since the pandemic started in 2020.

It said as of the date, there is no community transmission of Covid-19 in Muntinlupa.

Muntinlupa CHO acting chief Dr. Juancho Bunyi said the two remaining active cases registered in Muntinlupa are seafarers who did not get Covid-19 in the city.

The two seafarers, who are registered in Barangay Alabang, are currently staying in an isolation facility and are expected to recover from Covid-19 soon.

As of April 4, eight of the nine barangays are Covid-19-free. Barangay Sucat maintained zero active cases in the last 27 days, Bayanan for 19 days, Buli for 17 days, Tunasan for 11 days, Putatan for seven days, Ayala Alabang for five days, Poblacion for four days and Cupang for two days.

In addition, Dr. Edwin Dimatatac, director of the city-run Ospital ng Muntinlupa (OsMun) in Alabang, said there are no Covid-19 patients in the hospital to date. He said no positive results were also recorded in the city’s molecular laboratory for more than a month.

On April 4, Osmun held a ceremonial takedown of the field tent for Covid-19 operations due to the improvement in the situation in the city. Dimatatac said OsMun will remain prepared in addressing Covid-19 cases should there be a need.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi encouraged residents to get vaccinated and get their booster shot as protection from the virus.

During the flag-raising ceremony at the Muntinlupa City hall on April 4, Fresnedi said, “Good news. Basically in our city, as far as the Covid-19 cases are concerned, we are now zero. We have two active in Barangay Alabang but these are seafarers. This means, there is no community transmission."

He added, “No one is getting infected among residents, local transmission. We should continue to be careful. There are countries where cases continue to increase.”
