CNBLUE's Kang Minhyuk tests positive for Covid-19; Korea's total cases reach 17M

Singer and actor Kang Minhyuk, member of Korean pop rock band CNBLUE, has tested positive for Covid-19.

“This morning, CNBLUE Kang Minhyuk’s result of Covid-19 PCR test was positive,” said FNC Entertainment, the band’s agency.

“Kang Min-hyuk has completed the second dose of the vaccine, and currently has only mild symptoms of a sore throat, and all scheduled activities have been canceled,” the agency said.

It added, “Kang Min-hyuk will undergo self-quarantine and necessary measures in accordance with the guidelines of the quarantine authorities, and will concentrate on treatment with sufficient rest.”

“We ask for your understanding for causing concern, and we will do our best to faithfully comply with the guidelines and requests of the quarantine authorities for the quick recovery of the artist,” it said.

As a result, Minhyuk will not be attending the opening ceremony of the 23rd Jeonju International Film Festival to be held at Jeonju Dome in Jeonju on April 28.

On April 25, K-pop boy band EXO’s D.O. tested positive for Covid-19.

South Korea recorded 80,361 new Covid-19 cases on April 26, an increase from 34,370 new cases on April 25.

With the latest tally, South Korea’s total confirmed cases reached 17 million as of April 26, or 33 percent of its estimated population of 51.78 million.

South Korea has been experiencing a daily surge in cases since February due to the Omicron variant.
