Sharon, Regine see nothing wrong in 'withdrawal'

A day after the controversial joint press conference called by five national candidates vying for the top two public positions in the land and egging on second-highest survey leader Vice President Leni Robredo to withdraw from the presidential race, two of the country’s biggest singing icons, Megastar, Sharon Cuneta and, Asia’s SongBird, Regine Velasquez, both declared they see nothing wrong with moves to withdraw. Only this time, they did not pertain to doing a “withdrawal” as a political move.

The wife of vice presidential candidate Kiko Pangilinan, the megastar jested, “Nakapag-withdraw ako, pang-grocery. Yung asawa ko nag-withdraw din siya pang-utilities namin kasi ganun lang ang nagwi-withdraw sa amin.”

Jumping in on the conversation, Regine interjected: “Yung asawa ko kawi-withdraw lang,” as if referring to yet another kind of withdrawal.

Immediately getting what the SongBird was talking about Sharon quick-wittedly said: “Dapat kasi lalaki. Ang pangit naman kung kami!”

To save the conversation from being interpreted any other way, Regine clarified: “Kailangan ko mag-withdraw kasi birthday ko. Kailangan ko mag-shopping.”

The light exchange happened in front of members of the entertainment press who attended a media conference at the Manila Marriott Hotel’s The Hub.

The two female entertainment legends will topbill a concert entitled “Iconic,” which will be held at the Marriott Grand Ballroom on June 17 and 18. The two-day concert highlights pioneering integrated Resorts World Manila’s return to the live entertainment scene.

Shifting to a more serious tone, when asked directly what she thought of the joint press conference’s call for a Robredo withdrawal, Sharon clarified she’d rather focus on the single person who spoke on behalf of the five political candidates. Sunday’s political media conference had Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso as spokesperson.

“I could not make sense of it, I’m sorry. Frankly speaking, I couldn’t make sense of what he was saying. Let’s just look at all the reactions. Natuwa ako. Kasi hindi naman nakasira sa amin. Wala naman kaming ginagawa. Hindi namin maintindihan,” the Megastar said on how the message was delivered. She added: “Pero tuwang tuwa naman kami. Napa-palakpak pa nga kami kahapon eh. Di ba totoo, nakakatuwa? Nakakatuwa for us!”
